FAQ
How much do the courses cost?Auditing a course is completely free! Courses taken for credit are $75 each course per quarter. Courses can be purchased one quarter at a time or as a whole. However, students may only receive credit for a course when the course is taken in its entirety. There is also a one time registration fee of $20 when you first sign up with CCS Online. What is the difference between auditing a course and taking a course for credit?Students who audit a course will only receive access to the videos and online resources, but they will not receive the added benefits of teacher graded work and a transcript. Are your courses synchronous or asynchronous?Currently we are only providing pre-recorded asynchronous courses online. Our courses are primarily lecture presented via streaming video. We do hope to eventually offer synchronous classes as well if/when there is enough demand. Is Cornerstone accredited? No, we are not currently accredited. However, we are pursuing accreditation with both ACSI and WASC, and we hope to be accredited sometime within the next few years. When should we begin? That's really up to you. Once our course is available, you may start it at any time. But keep in mind, you are only allotted 130 days per quarter before you will be locked out of the course (this is double the time it takes our students at school), so don't take too much time getting through the course once you begin. I can teach Bible myself; why do I need your course?Good question. The simple answer is we have a unique product. Long answer, because Greg has a lot to offer parents who desire to teach their children at home. He is an elder, an author, a Biblical scholar, and has over 25 years experience in teaching high school and college age students. Most importantly, his students absolutely love his teaching and are bearing good fruit! Another benefit for some parents is having another godly instructor reinforcing the same things you are teaching your child at home. Young people frequently comment that sometimes it is easier to receive instruction from another authority in addition to their parents.
Andrea Schwartz (click here), an author and CCS Online parent, states, Having homeschooled my daughter from the beginning, I was eager to expose her to other teachers and teaching situations. I couldn't have asked for a better initiation than the Systematic Theology and Government classes taught by Greg Uttinger through Cornerstone Christian School. Greg is solidly orthodox when it comes to the Christian faith and really communicates the doctrines and principles in an engaging fashion. It is not unusual for me to hear my daughter chuckling throughout the lectures, and afterwards sharing with me all she has learned. I'm very happy with the program and plan to continue with more courses in the future.
Morgan, one of our 2006 graduates, recently told us, I just got back from a trip to Greece and Turkey that was organized by my private Christian college, and I was amazed at how much more I knew (compared to the other students on the trip) about the historical significance of the ancient sites we were visiting; I understood the culture and religion of the ancient world as a result of Mr. Uttinger’s World History and Bible classes. Also, I am able to frequently have intelligent theological discussions with other students who have had upper division Bible classes. Notes I took in high school have helped me start college classroom discussions and writing assignments. I am not in the dark; CCS has prepared me for college. There is no doubt about it--Mr. Uttinger has taught me well, and I am better for it. Even though I have graduated, I always wished I could take classes from him in college. I used to ask Mr. Uttinger if I could take him to college with me. Now I can! I am planning on taking some classes again online to reinforce and refresh what I learned when I was a freshman and sophomore in high school. I have been waiting for this for a long time. My parents always wanted to know what we were learning in high school and now they can, too. Eve, the mom of a CCS alumnus, states, In the fall of 1995, when my daughter was in 2nd grade at CCS, I attended the school’s annual poetry contest. When Mr. Uttinger was introduced to explain the contest I was blown away that his junior and senior high age students spontaneously stood up, clapped, and cheered wildly for him. It was obvious that they esteemed, respected, and loved him and his teaching. What stood out in my mind is that this was just a regular school function and not anything special to honor Mr. Uttinger. It was not an event where you would expect to get this kind of response. I knew then that I had definitely chosen the right school. I wanted my daughter to have him for a teacher when she got to high school. Now that she is graduated from high school and has gone on to college my daughter continues to have an incredible appetite for learning, particularly about Bible and history. She was truly being educated at CCS, not just filling a seat. It was not just regurgitation of facts, but true mastery of the subjects. She learned to think and to write, and to write well. When you have one instructor teaching the same students different subjects he is able to relate the classes to each other and to the Bible and to life…it brings in more of a reality and practical application of what they are learning. I see his former students continue to interact with him and his family years after having been in his classroom. What I see in my daughter’s life is the fulfillment of the vision and mission of the school. She would not have been able to receive that from us (her parents), and most likely not from any other Christian school in the area. This is due to Mr. Uttinger’s teaching.
